Sanjay Kumar is an Indian-American business executive and the former CEO of Computer Associates (CA). He was born on April 8, 1959 in India and graduated from IIT Delhi with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Kumar joined CA in 1983 and rose through the ranks to become the company's CEO in 2000. During his tenure, he was credited with leading the company's transformation from a mainframe software provider to a provider of enterprise software solutions. He also oversaw the acquisition of several companies, including Platinum Technology and Cheyenne Software.
Kumar resigned from CA in 2004 after the company was investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission for accounting fraud. He was later convicted of securities fraud and obstruction of justice and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
Kumar was a close friend of former US President Bill Clinton, who appointed him to the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee in 2000. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Clinton Foundation and a major donor to the foundation.
